Mile of Music and Me - The Rehearsals

Sunday was the first day that I played the flute for and with other people at a rehearsal for about 3 decades.  The first time we did the song my heart was beating so fast that I missed notes I hadn't missed before.  Frustrating! The second and third times went well, but we discovered that my $50.00 garage sale find was horribly sharp and most likely needed some adjustments.  I hadn't thought of tuning in such a long time! The first note I play is usually sharp unless you use a different fingering and the old Yamaha garage sale find with the dented headjoint was also not doing me any favors.  Also, I don't think I've ever played directly into a microphone before so that was a fun learning experience as well.  Fun fact, you put it higher and then point it down for less airiness.  So much to relearn / learn in such a little time!  The behind the scenes I've been exposed to by taking on this challenge has made me respect musicians even more!

Continued Steps to Confidence:

Fifth Step:

Rent a new flute to help with tuning issues and improve tone.  Such a difference!

Sixth Step:

Schedule a second rehearsal.  Played the song twice through with Tyler and pretty much nailed it! Confidence boosted! :)

Seventh Step:  get a few more practices in

Eighth Step:  Enjoy the experience! Remember to have fun!
